Sinister Style – Electrical Safety & Compliance Statement

The lighting products supplied by Sinister Style are designed and manufactured to operate exclusively on extra-low voltage (ELV) 5V DC power. As defined under the Electrical Equipment Safety System (EESS) and the AS/NZS 3820: Essential Safety Requirements for Electrical Equipment, products operating at voltages below 50V AC or 120V DC are not classified as in-scope electrical equipment and are not declared electrical articles.
Accordingly, Sinister Style’s 5V lighting products are not required to be RCM-certified under the EESS, but remain fully subject to mandatory electrical safety obligations under Australian Consumer Law (ACL).

Sinister Style ensures that all products placed on the Australian market meet the essential safety principles of AS/NZS 3820, including but not limited to:

Protection against electrical shock
Mechanical strength and stability
Resistance to heat and fire hazards
Proper insulation and enclosure of electrical components
Safe operation under normal and foreseeable misuse conditions

All lighting products contain no internal 240V AC circuitry, no hardwired connections, and no integrated mains-voltage power supply. Operation is limited to 5V DC supplied via USB, which must be used with a RCM-approved USB power source if the end user elects to connect the product to an external adaptor.

Where Sinister Style supplies a USB power adapter, the adapter will bear valid RCM electrical safety approval in compliance with Australian and New Zealand standards.

By purchasing and using Sinister Style lighting products, the user acknowledges and agrees that:

The products are classified as extra-low voltage lighting equipment,
They are not regulated as mains-voltage luminaires under EESS declared article requirements, and
They remain subject to general product safety obligations under ACL, all of which Sinister Style adheres to through design controls, testing, and inspection procedures.
All lights must be supervised while charging
